I got a thing for Gigantic,

Best label artwork out there

No review or pithy commentary on the beer you see above.  Just wanted to wish our 3 followers a great Labor Day Weekend.  As you can see, I got mine started off on the right foot.  If you get a chance, pick up this High Fidelity Beer from Gigantic.  It’s a satisfying pale ale, in the best sense possible.  Another way to describe it would be nutty, foamy, and hoppy with a bit of a fruit finish that lingers on the tongue…if you get that reference, color me impressed at your taste in cinema.

Enjoy the weekend, folks!

blackout beer

26 Aug

Last week as I was lying in bed trying to accept the fact that it was time to get up and go to work, a story came on NPR about the massive blackout of 2003 in the NE U.S. and Canada. What startled me most was the reason for the story: it was the 10 year anniversary of the event! What was startling is how ten years can pass with barely a blink of an eye. Because if I sat and thought about it, of course I knew it had been ten years, but it only felt like a couple really. I remember exactly where I was, what I was doing, and everything that happened that day. Continue reading

Beautiful beer...too bad it's not my style

Beautiful beer…too bad it’s not my style

Even though Hood River is home to all kinds of good breweries, Double Mountain is the only place I ever seem to visit when I go (their pizzas rock!).  Last time we were there, I noticed some Belgian-Style beers in the cooler.  Even though the style is not one I usually seek out, I thought it was worth seeing what DM could do with it. this was our first year attending the IIPA Fest at Saraveza. our perception was that it would be crowded and crazy given the small space and the hyper-hop beer culture around here. i expected the usual suspects plus a handful of douchey “gotta be seen there” types. i also wondered if we would find a whole bunch of overdone, over-thought beers that you couldn’t enjoy a full pour of. but it was michael’s birthday. and he has a fondness for well-crafted IIPAs and hops that smack ya in the face. so…what the hell!!

and?…we were pleasantly surprised. Continue reading

it’s that time of year

Jesus H. Christ, it’s only August 18th…

I don’t even have the words right now.  I only bought this because I was so shocked as to the novelty of it all.  There is no way I could drink this with the weather we have right now, but apparently it’s never too early to get a jump on getting your Pumpkin beer to market.  So I guess I’ll hold on to this until October?  Even worse?  It’ll probably be underwhelming.  Especially with all those ingredients.  Why don’t they just start releasing these damn beers in April and get it over with?
