There’s more to life than beer

What’s more Fall than apples?

I was at the coast this past weekend with a big group of friends, taking in the last bit of sunshine and warmth to be had out that way.  It was 70 degrees and sunny both days, which meant the entire group spent our days playing frisbee and jumping into 52 degree water.  There was lots of good food, craft beer, and even a few Chocolate Whiskey & Beer cupcakes lying around.  The drive home on Sunday, however, cemented the idea of fall for me.  There were plenty of trees changing colors along Highway 26, and the air in the coast range had a bite to it.  I promised myself that this week would see me try at least two fall-type beverages.  I say beverages because I have been wanting to write a bit about some ciders that I have recently been enjoying. Cheers to Vinny

11 Sep

Today we reflect on the events of eleven years ago. We don’t talk about it much. Having experienced it firsthand, we wish we could ban those images and the tragedy from our memories. Our neighborhood lost countless firemen and police officers, including Captain Vinny. He also happened to be one of the best barkeeps I have ever met. So it seemed fitting to toast to his memory and his family, and to do so with the most heavenly hard cider I’ve ever had, Hallelujah Hopricot by Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider.

We remember every day, but as we reflect today, we think about all those heroes and victims as well as their families, wishing them much peace and happiness. We also find ourselves brought to our knees with gratitude for the last eleven years, most importantly being able to live and enjoy those years together and in good health.
